Using GO-Email and ASP Email to send emails

1. Then in our program (Rent Master, Ausbroker, Payroll etc) click on the DATABASE menu and choose the option to UPDATE DATA DEFINITIONS. (You may have to click on a few OK buttons during this process).
2. Then click on the EDIT menu and then the OTHER MASTER FILES option and then CONTROL DETAILS. Make sure that you have your correct email address entered into the email box and also your correct MAIL SERVER name entered into that box as well.
3. Once you have printed the statements there will be another screen pop up where you have to enter your email address etc and then click on the EMAIL button to send them.

NOTE: Your mail server name is usually the word mail plus a dot plus your ISP details eg. mail.chariot.net.au, mail.internode.on.net, mail.adam.com.au, mail.iinet.com.au, mail.bigpond.com etc. Your ISP can tell you what you should have entered into this box if you are unsure.

Using GO-Email and ASP Email to send emails

We have had a number of customers say that they can't use our automatic emailing functions to email their landlords, customers, employees etc. It always works on computers that we have sold as well as all of our own computers. However we have recently tried a different method which seems to work on all systems that we have tried to date. To use this method you will need to

• Download and Install the ASP Email program. (This program is also on our installation CDs produced in 2005 and later).
• Download and install our Utilities programs.
• Download and install the latest Ausbroker or Rent Master program update onto all of your computers AFTER doing the above steps.
• Go into your program (eg Rent Master, Ausbroker, Payroll, Accounting etc) and make this change
  • From the main screen click on the FILE menu
  • Choose EDIT INI Files
  • Select the INI file for your program (eg Rent Master, Ausbroker, Payroll etc) from the list
  • Click on the QUERY button
  • If asked select to open it with NOTEPAD
  • Look for the line that starts with [Programs] in this file.
  • Below this line look for a line that starts with GoMail=
  • Change this line to read Gomail=Go-Email.Exe
  • Choose the SAVE AS option from the FILE menu
  • Change the SAVE AS TYPE entry to read ALL FILES
  • Save the INI file and Exit the editor.
• Click on START then RUN then enter GO-EMAIL.EXE and click on the OK button

Now you will need to fill in all of this information before you proceed. Don't just copy the information in the image above - you must put information relevant to YOUR email account and address into this form.

• Host=YOUR ISP's Mail server name (eg: mail.internode.on.net or mail.bigpond.com or mail.chariot.net.au)
• Port=25 (always 25 unless your ISP tells you otherwise)
• From=Your Email Address (eg support@gosoftware.com.au)
• FromName=Your name (eg Billy Brown)
• UserName=Your internet user name (that you use to log onto your ISP)
• Password=Your internet password (that you use to log onto your ISP)
• MainTo=any valid email address - to be used for testing the program only
• MainName=The name of the person you wish to send the test email to
• CC and BCC=Your email address again
• CCName and BCCName=Your Name
• background=You can put the name and location of an image file to use as a backdrop to your email or leave it blank
• Attachment=leave it blank unless you wish to email an attachment in your test email
• HTML=Tick the box if you want to use HTML emails (normally you do)
• CC or BCC tick boxes=Tick ONE of them if you want to email a copy to yourself of all emails you send
• background=c:\a-webs\gosoft\images\back2.gif

Why aren't GO Software's e-mail features working for me?

• Outlook or Outlook Express
• Netscape Messenger
• America Online (AOL)
• Eudora
• Other Errors from Outlook
• Alternate Method of Emailing Statement

The email support in GO Software's programs requires that you have an e-mail program installed and properly configured. If there is a problem with your e-mail configuration, then these features may be disabled or non-functional. GO Software uses a Microsoft protocol called MAPI (Mail Applications Program Interface) to "talk" to your e-mail program. MAPI is a standard interface that allows our software and other programs (including Windows itself) to instruct your e-mail program to create a new message, attach a file to it, etc. If MAPI is not properly configured on your system, then our software, Windows, and other programs can't create e-mail for you. "Properly configured" means that:

• you have a MAPI-compliant e-mail program installed, and
• the e-mail program properly supports the "Simple MAPI" interface that GO Software requires, and
• the e-mail program is configured to be the default e-mail program (sometimes called the "default MAPI client")

If you are using Outlook or Outlook Express as your e-mail program

• Run Microsoft Internet Explorer.
• Choose Properties or Internet Properties, and click the Programs tab.
• Choose the desired e-mail program from the drop-down list labelled E-mail or Mail (depending on your version of Internet Explorer).
• Click OK to save your changes.

If you are using Netscape Messenger as your e-mail program

• Choose Preferences from Messenger's Edit menu.
• Choose the Mail and Newsgroups category and check the option to "Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications".
• Click OK to save your changes.

If you are using America Online as your e-mail program

• Sign on to AOL.
• Click the Keyword button.
• In the resulting "Keyword" dialog, type the word "Preferences" (without quotes) into the text box, and click the Go button.
• In the resulting "Preferences" dialog, click on the Association link to select "America Online" as your preferred application for web browsing, e-mail and newsgroups.
• In the resulting "Associations Preferences" dialog, click the OK button.

If you are using Eudora as your e-mail program

• Choose Options from Eudora's Tools menu.
• Choose the MAPI category and set Use Eudora MAPI Server to "Always".
• Click OK to save your changes.

If you are receiving an error from Outlook when using GO Software's e-mail features

However, problems can arise when other MAPI-compliant e-mail software has been installed on your system.

Here is some information from the Outlook 2000 help file which may help to solve your problem: Installing other messaging software after installing Microsoft Outlook can cause problems.

If you see a message that says that your Mapi32.dll file is corrupt or the wrong version, you can fix it by running the FixMapi.Exe program from the Microsoft Windows System Directory.

In Windows Explorer, open the Windows folder (or in some cases the WinNT folder) and then open the System folder. If you can't see the FixMapi.Exe file in the System folder go back to the Windows (or WinNt) folder and then go into the system32 folder to see if it's in there. You can find out what your Windows or Windows System Folder is by using this method.

Double-click Fixmapi.exe to run the program and hopefully this will correct the problem. (You can try running it using the links below).

For Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME

According to Microsoft:- For these controls to work, MAPI services must be present. MAPI services are provided in MAPI compliant electronic mail systems.

Note: If you attempt to run a program that uses the MAPI controls, make sure that you have the MAPI DLLs installed properly or you may not be able to perform simple MAPI functions such as Sign on. For example, on Windows 95, you must install Mail (and/or MS Exchange) during the operating system setup, or install it separately from the control panel to correctly use MAPI functions or MAPI custom controls.

Alternate Method of Emailing Statement

• Go into EDIT LANDLORD
• Click on the FILE menu
• Click on the LANDLORD STATEMENT option
• Click on DISPLAY

• You can then click on the FILE menu in Internet Explorer
• Click on SEND
• Click on PAGE BY EMAIL

• Click on the EDIT menu in Internet Explorer and then click on SELECT ALL
• Click on the EDIT menu in Internet Explorer and then click on COPY
• Start up Outlook Express and create a new email
• Click on the EDIT menu in Outlook Express and then click PASTE
• This will insert the copied statement directly into the email for you.
