SORRY: I think that Australia on Disc is no Longer Available

You can try contacting these people form mailing/emailing/fax lists as they MAY be able to help youBeware that sending unsolicited information to people at random may make your business VERY unpopular!! and by sending it via email you may be breaching the anti-SPAM laws.
We have no more information on this matter other than the info on this page. Please contact the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs or your local MP to complain about Telstra/Sensis Practises if you want anything to change.

Downloadable Address Lists

We now have access to another method of supplying name, address and phone number lists. This is NOT a cdrom of the data but instead it allows you access to a central database via the internet and you can download lists from this database. You pre-purchase credits for the number of data records that you want to download. The information is NOT sourced from the phone book(s) and so Telstra CAN NOT shut this source down. The data is a bit more expensive than the previous CDROM data but it is also more accurate and more complete than phone book data (how they can claim this I don't know).

Residential Data (7 million records available)

The core dataset available is:

  • Contact name
  • Full address
  • Telephone number
  • DPID (Delivery Point Identification number - used to postnet barcode bulk mail) (Where possible)

and you can search by:

  • Postcode
  • Suburb
  • Radius
  • Geo-demographic profiling powered by geoSmart

geoSmart is an easy-to-use neighbourhood segmentation system, based on the principle that people with similar demographic profiles and lifestyles tend to live near each other.

Customised data selections

In addition to our core dataset, the following information is available:

  • Age bands
  • Willingness to donate
  • Presence of children within the household
  • Property owners

Business Data (800,000 records available)

The core dataset available is:

  • Company trading name
  • Full address
  • Phone number
  • Industry classification (ANZSIC Coded)
  • DPID (Delivery Point Identification number) (Where possible)

The DSA DataWizardTM enables users to select searches by:

  • Postcode
  • Suburb
  • Radius
  • Industry classification

Customised data selections

Our business dataset can be supplemented with the following on an offline basis:

  • Company legal name
  • Employee size
  • Facsimile number
  • ABN numbers
  • Contacts

When you choose a package, you purchase a defined amount of credits. The choice of package determines the price for each record, for example:

Three pricing packages (All prices are exclusive of GST.):

GO Software has been a reseller for Australia on Disc, DTMS (Desktop Marketing System) as well as ASearch which were all widely used in the Real Estate Industry, Debt Collection Industry (and others) to generate personalised mail outs to prospective purchasers and vendors.

Due to a dispute with Telstra and Sensis (Yellow Pages and White Pages Directories) these databases are no longer available. Telstra/Sensis have a monopoly position with regard to this information and we believe that they have engaged in anti-competitive Practises by forcing their competition out of the market. Up until recently we believed you could now ONLY purchase this style of information from Telstra/Sensis. However I have just found out that Telstra/Sensis DON'T EVEN HAVE A COMPETING PRODUCT!

Recently we have been providing the ASearch phone book Marketing software and we/they believed that Telstra was NOT going to threaten them and shut them down as they didn't gather their information from the printed phone books which Sensis has copyrighted. They, instead, gathered their information by doing multiple internet searches into Telstra's on-line database and then compiled their gathered data into their own format database. They maintained that because they had gathered their own lists through doing multiple searches of on-line database(s) then they had not infringed Telstra's copyright and Telstra had agreed with them. HOWEVER Telstra HAS now threatened legal action against them and THEY TOO are now shutting down.

THERE ARE NOW NO CDROM BASED PHONE BOOK/ADDRESS DATABASES THAT YOU CAN USE FOR DESKTOP MARKETING AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA
(although we believe that there MAY be companies developing these for Australia in one of Australia's neighbouring countries).

However we can't help you to find these (if they do exist) other than by suggesting that you do a search on the internet. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news and I have NO IDEA what businesses are going to do in the future other than paying someone to key the relevant information that they require into a database from the existing phone books. It is our belief that this information should be in the public domain - and to some extent it is as you can go to any post office and get ANY phone book FOR FREE anyway! However, who can afford to fight an monopolistic giant like Telstra? Perhaps write to your local MP to express your DISGUST at Telstra's behaviour.
